Summer means one thing: bottomless Margs. I kid. Kind of. Summer to me is sand between my toes and endless golden hours on the beach. And as much as I ADORE Ibiza (The White Isle) the great news is that you don’t actually need to get on an EasyJet flight to get your beach fix.
In this blog I want us to embark on a coastal adventure to explore the hidden gems of the United Kingdom. From pristine stretches of powdery sand to dramatic cliffs embracing the crashing waves, the UK boasts an array of stunning beaches that could even rival those found abroad – yes, really.
So, pack your swimsuits, grab your SPF (obvs), and let's dive into the top ten beaches that will leave you tanned and dazzled.
Kicking off our beach extravaganza is Bournemouth, a coastal masterpiece known for its wide sandy shores and vibrant atmosphere. This beach is a magnet for sun lovers, who flock here to revel in the sunshine and dip their toes in the crystal-clear waters. With an array of seaside cafes and buzzing nightlife, Bournemouth Beach is the epitome of coastal charm.
Prepare to be captivated by the untouched beauty of Rhossili Bay. Tucked away on the Gower Peninsula, this breathtaking beach boasts mile upon mile of golden sand and rolling dunes, providing a picturesque backdrop for long walks and unforgettable sunsets. Scotland has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, let alone the UK. In fact, I could write an entire post on them alone. St Ninians is a hidden gem. It has the most gorgeous tombolo, or ayre as locals call it, which connects the island to the mainland. The long and narrow stretch of soft sand shrinks to a sliver at high tide, however, you can still walk right through it and enjoy the incredible views.
Hidden along the south coast of Wales lies the delightful Porthcawl. With its long sandy stretches and the iconic Grand Pavilion, this beach offers a mix of natural beauty and old-world charm. Stroll along the promenade, get you fish and chips fix, or take a dip in the ocean.
Prepare to be completely in awe of the enchanting coastal town of St Ives. This Cornish gem is home to a collection of idyllic sandy beaches, including Porthminster Beach and Porthmeor Beach. Whether you're an art buff exploring the Tate St Ives or just looking for a chilled spot to relax, St Ives delivers with its picturesque landscapes and sparkling turquoise waters.
It would be fair to think that Luskentyre Sands is a spot in the Caribbean and not, in fact, in the outer hebrides of Scotland. That is until you feel the temperature of the icy sea. All is forgiven with the beauty of the beach. A stunning spot for sundowners.
Tenby South Beach is a seaside wonderland that will transport you into an almost fairytale-like setting. Nairn Beach is very popular thanks to its rolling sands and vibrant promenade. On top of that, its famous for its dolphin sightings. So bring your binoculars and your best dolphin impression ;)
Stretching as far as the eye can see, this stunning sandy expanse – where Shakespeare in Love was filmed, mind you – is backed by a dense pine forest, allowing for total peace and solitude. No wonder the late Queen used to walk her corgis here!
What’s a blog post without including BB? Nestled on the vibrant south coast, Brighton Beach stands tall as one of the best beaches in the country. With its iconic pebbled shoreline, colorful beach huts, and bustling promenade, Brighton Beach offers a unique and lively coastal experience.
